How to Keep an Eye Out for Potential Problems in a Property

Multifuse Team • Oct 28, 2021

Whether you are looking to buy or sell a property, it is important to learn how to spot potential problems and issues that may arise. If you catch issues early on, you’ll have a better chance of solving them and saving the integrity of the property. Here are a few issues that you should be keeping an eye out for when inspecting a property.

Exterior Wear

One of the most common types of damage that can occur on a property is exterior wear. The exterior of a home goes through a lot of wear and tear throughout the year with the changing of the weather. Particularly if you live in an area with four different seasons and drastic temperature changes, your home could be at a higher risk of significant exterior wear. When inspecting a property for exterior wear, it is important to look for any signs of wear , such as cracks, breaks, or irregularities in the home’s walls, particularly along the foundation. It is also common for issues to occur around areas where wiring or pipes enter the home. Make sure that you are looking out for these issues to prevent further damage.

Structural Issues

Another potential problem that you should be looking for is structural issues that may have occurred. Structural issues usually have to do with the main structure of the house, such as the foundation, the interior and exterior of walls, and the roof. There are many different types of damage that can happen that threaten the structural integrity of a home. For example, a property may have a termite or pest infestation. Damaged wood or holes in the drywall can be signs of termites in a home. If you are able to identify these issues, you can take the time to find a good solution for them, preventing future damage.

Interior Damage

While it may seem like most of the damage to a house occurs on the outside, interior damage also occurs. You should be looking for any signs of potential problems in the home’s interior as well as the exterior. Many common interior problems come from water damage. This could include mold, leaking faucets, and burst pipes. While these problems may not seem super significant, water damage can severely impact your home’s safety, especially if your home is made mostly of wood and drywall. It is important to keep an eye out for these issues.

Remember, as you’re inspecting properties that you’re either buying or selling, it is important to look for any possible issues. Keep in mind the different wear and tear that have been described in this article as you are doing your inspection. As you do so, you’ll be able to find solutions that will save the property from structural disasters in the future.
