How to Make Sure You Get More Money for Your Home

Jul 18, 2022

Getting what your house is truly worth is an accomplishment worth celebrating. Getting to that point, though, can sometimes be quite difficult. If you’re willing to give your home everything you’ve got to elevate it to the top, here are some tips you might want to hear.

Be Patient During the Sale

The waiting game is arguably the hardest part of selling a property. In certain markets, at certain times of the year, maybe this won’t be as much of a concern – since it may be likely that you’ll receive future offers soon if you get one you don’t like. But in other circumstances, it can be a lot more difficult to find the patience to wait for a better offer. You have to be realistic, of course, and sometimes you might be in a position where you have to take what you can get. But generally, you can have confidence that you won’t have to compromise with a disappointingly low offer.

Renovate Your Home

Renovations are essential in the selling process. You can use them to shore up aesthetically and functionally weak spots in the house. The cosmetic appearance of your interior will be especially important. People love to feel like they’re in a space that is modern, high-class, and easy to visualize being in. High-end finishes like granite countertops can boost your home value for that very reason. Make a master list of everything that could be renovated in the home, then prioritize it by importance. Weigh that priority level with the projected costs. Calculate what you could do yourself and what you would need a hired crew to refurbish.

Hire an Agent

Agents are a huge help for a lot of reasons. They may cost a little bit extra, but it’s usually worth it. They streamline the process of selling and have a wealth of experience and knowledge on your specific local market. They know what a reasonable counteroffer is, and what is just too low to accept. They know which offers to jump on and which offers to discard entirely. You, selling your house alone, simply will not have that kind of insight – although you might save a couple of bucks.

You need to be careful when selling a home. Acting too hastily can cost you. Cutting certain corners (although it may be tempting) also can cost you much more in the long run. But if you put in the necessary preparation, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.
