How to Make Your Home Safe and Secure

Multifuse Team • May 12, 2022

Your home is your haven. It is the place for the family to gather, where everyone should be and feel safe. It is a good idea to perform a regular safety check on your home, making sure that all is in order. In addition to a regular safety check, here are three ways to keep your home both safe and secure.

Have it Inspected

Home inspections shouldn’t only be done at the time of purchase. Experts recommend that you have your house inspected by a professional every 3-5 years, or even more if your home is older than 10 years. A house has a lot of inner workings that most homeowners lack the expertise and skill to inspect. Examples are the crawl space, the roof, the plumbing, the electrical wiring, the appliances, and more. Finding and addressing problems early is always better than repairing major damages. Home inspections are also ideal for preventative care—stopping issues before they even start. Preventative maintenance could even save your lives. It is worth spending a few hundred dollars every few years to have the peace of mind that all is well with your home.

Install a Security System

Few things protect your home from vandalism, theft, and home invasions like a security system. Today’s security systems are more advanced than ever before. For example, modern systems can link with your smartphone to give you livestream footage, instant notifications, and the ability to turn off the alarm remotely. If there is an intruder, you can instantly call the police. Additionally, you can opt for 24 hours a day professional monitoring, as well. A security system works best when integrated with smart home tech. One example is a video doorbell. You can also receive notifications in the case of a fire or gas leak by installing smart smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Perform Regular Maintenance on Alarms

They may be small enough that you almost forget about them, but your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors could save your life one day. For them to do their job, you must perform regular maintenance on them. The National Fire Protection Association recommends that you change the batteries in your smoke detector every 6 months. One good idea is to change them each time the clocks change with daylight savings time. They also suggest changing out the alarms themselves every 10 years. Furthermore, you should test your alarm every month. The same holds true with your carbon monoxide detector.

Your home should be the one place where you can escape from the cares of the world and truly feel safe. You deserve the peace of mind that comes from a safe and secure home. Keep your alarms in working order, install a security system, and have your home inspected regularly. These simple habits could save you a world of trouble, or even your lives.
